Shirley (Kirkey) Opperman, Millington

Mrs. Shirley (Kirkey) Opperman of Millington passed away late Friday afternoon January 16, 2015 at her residence with her husband and family at her side, Shirley was 69.  The daughter of the late Walter & Esther (Cooper) Kirkey Shirley was born in Flint Michigan on March 23, 1945. Shirley grew up here in Millington and graduated from Millington High School. On December 5th of 1964 Shirley married Robert (Bob) Opperman, and together they have celebrated 50 years of marriage. For several years Shirley worked for the Burns Poultry Farm in the candle room.  Shirley also loved flowers and gardening in her many floral gardens. She will be missed but her warm friendly smile will never be forgotten.  Shirley leaves her husband Bob, a son, Robert Opperman, and a daughter Cindy Opperman, three grandchildren; Andrew, Emily, and Elizabeth.  She also leaves a brother and sister in law Lyle and Margaret Kirkey, two sisters and a brother in-law, Charlotte and Frank Zuhlke, Susan Walker, several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents.  The Opperman family will receive friends on Tuesday January 20, 2015 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and also on Wednesday from 10: 00 am until the services begin. Funeral services for Shirley will be on Wednesday January 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Hanlin Funeral Home.  Pastor Ken Hoard will deliver the funeral message and the closing committal prayer at the cemetery.
