HARVEY J. OSTRANDER, CARO

Harvey J. Ostrander of Caro, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro.  He was born March 27, 1921 in Deford, the son of the late Harvey John and Maude Amelia (Springer) Ostrander.  Harvey was employed for fifteen years at Michigan Sugar in Caro, where he worked in the boiler house.  He retired in 1983 at the age of sixty-two.  Prior to his employment with Michigan Sugar, he operated several fast food restaurants in southeastern Michigan, as well as service stations in Marlette and Detroit.  Harvey also worked for Browning Steamship Lines where he held various managerial positions at facilities in Buffalo, New York, Ashtabula, Ohio, and Detroit.  Harvey accepted Christ as Savior as a young man.  During the period that Harvey and his family lived in Ashtabula, Ohio, Harvey served faithfully in his church as a Sunday School teacher, youth director, trustee, deacon and choir member.  Harvey is survived by his wife of forty years, Rosemarie (Catalano) Ostrander; seven children, Garry & Ruby Mae (Foy) Ostrander of Adrian, Sandra & John Buell of Grosse Pointe Woods, Harvey III & Kathryn (Banyai) Ostrander of Farmington, Troy & Carolee (Waite) Ostrander of Furlong, Pennsylvania, Charlene & David Newkirk of Sandusky, Calvin Ostrander of Caro, Bobette & Dave Michael of Rochester Hills; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jesse Ostrander; brother-in-law, John L. Catalano; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur and Richard Ostrander; and four sisters, Fern Silvernail, Leta Silvernail, Beatrice Lindholm and Marion Browning.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Ronald Wigand officiating.  Burial will follow at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro.  The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.    Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Hometown Health Home Health & Hospice.  The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro.  Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
