REESE — Reyna Frost became Reese High School’s career scoring leader Monday night, tallying 29 points in a 63-33 win over visiting Valley Lutheran.

“I was really happy with our win tonight,” said Reese coach Denny Gruber. “Valley Lutheran was 6-3 coming into the game, so we beat a nice quality team.”

Frost, who has amassed a career total of 1,231 points, surpassed Rachelle Heinlein, who scored a total of 1,208 points through 2001. Frost added 16 rebounds, nine blocked shots, six steals and five assists, Gruber said.

Reese led 36-19 and expanded the margin in the second half. Maddie Coulter added 14 for the Rockets, now 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the Greater Thumb Conference West Division.

Reese hosts the state’s No. 1-ranked Class C team, Sandusky, on Wednesday night.

Kingston 44, Deckerville 30: Kingston’s girls basketball team remains unbeaten in the North Central Thumb League after beating Deckerville on the road Monday. “This was a hard-fought game that was much closer than the score indicates,” said Kingston coach Jay Green, whose Cardinals moved to 8-0 in the NCTL and 11-2 overall. Kingston outscored the Eagles 13-5 in the fourth quarter. Deckerville’s Jenna Genoff scored a basket with 3:30 remaining in the game to cut Kingston’s lead to 37-30, but that would be the last points scored by the Eagles. Genoff scored 11 points to lead Deckerville. Kingston featured a trio of players with 11 points apiece: Cassidy MacGuire, Jenna Boyl and Sarah Savage. Kingston made 18 of 27 free throws, shooting well from the foul line in the second half, to help seal game.

Bullock Creek 57, Frankenmuth 40: The state’s second-ranked Class B team outscored Frankenmuth 31-8 in the second and third quarters to defeat the 10th-ranked Eagles on Monday. The game pitted visiting Frankenmuth, the top team in the Tri-Valley Conference’s East Division, against host Bullock Creek, the top team in the TVC Central. The outside shooting of Bullock Creek’s Ellie Juengel hurt Frankenmuth, as did Haley Nieman who found her way to the basket often. Bay City All Saints 49, Akron-Fairgrove 44: The host Vikings came close to handing the Cougars their first Michigan Summit League loss on Tuesday night, but couldn’t pull it off. Akron-Fairgrove made only five of 17 free throws in the contest, the second time the Vikings have played All Saints. “This time we played much better against them,” said Viking coach Andy Beauvais. “We did a better job defensively and we were more aggressive offensively and got more free-throw attempts, but we didn’t knock ’em down.” Viking point guard Kim Rayl scored 10 points and collected 10 rebounds. Teammate Emily Wagner also scored 10 for Akron-Fairgrove, now 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the league.
