CARO — Devin Harris is back behind bars for the second time this month on charges in connection with the alleged robbery of a Caro business.
Harris, 18, of Caro, was arrested Friday night in connection with 7:47 p.m., armed robbery of the Rite Aid, 625, N. State St. (M-81).
An eye witness to the robbery said the suspect was wearing a “zebra pattern outfit and a nylon mask,” and that a large knife was used in the robbery.
“The suspect ran from the store when Michigan State Troopers from the Caro Post arrived, but was arrested a short time later after the investigation led to an apartment in the area,” explained the MSP press release.
“There were no injuries to any store employees or civilians that were in the store at the time of the robbery.”
According to Undersheriff Glen Skrent, Harris is the same person who is charged the attempted robbery of the Caro wine shop less than two weeks ago.
From the Rite Aid robbery, Harris is charged with: armed robbery, resisting and obstruction of a police officer, lying to a police officer, attempted escape from jail through violence, two counts of resisting and obstructing, possessing a dangerous weapon with unlawful intend, and assaulting a police officer.
MSP troopers took Harris into custody without incident; but once he was taken to the Tuscola County Jail for booking an lock up, that’s where compliance allegedly ended.
While being booked by a Tuscola County female deputy about 4 a.m., Saturday, Harris attacked the deputy and punched her three times.
“He ran out of the booking room and attempted to get out several exit doors. He was subdued by the female deputy and others who arrived on scene,” said Skrent. “The deputy later sought treatment at a local hospital.”
According to Skrent, although corrections officers are not out on the streets, what they do is still dangerous.
“Correction deputies are mostly out of the spotlight but still face the same dangers as road officers,” said Skrent. “They, much like dispatchers, are the unknown heroes working behind the scenes to keep the public safe.”
This is the second time in 10 days that Harris has been arrested for allegedly robbing a Caro business. He was arrested in connection with the or the Jan. 13 armed robbery of Ziels Wine Shop (formerly Caro Wine Shop), at 895 S. State Street (M-81), Caro, at knife point.
Besides the charges from the Rite Aid incident, Harris also is also facing charges from the attempted robbery of the wine shop of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon with unlawful intent, and operating a vehicle with an improper license.
Troopers were assisted at the Rite Aid scene by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department as well as officers from the following police departments of Caro City, Cass City, Unionville, Reese, and an MSP K-9 unit.
