Ruth Wood, Age 87, of Fairgrove, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Medstar Montgomery Medical Center of Olney, Maryland. A mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at St. Christopher Parish, 140 Atwood Street, Caro, MI 48723. Rev. Fr. Dennis Kucharczyk will officiate with burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. Ruth’s family will be present at the Martin Funeral Home – Fairgrove on Friday, February 6, 2015, to receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Saturday, Ruth will lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Ruth was born February 1927, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John and Louise Hughes. Ruth graduated from Fairgrove High School, Class of 1945. She completed nursing school at Saginaw General, with the intent of becoming a WWII Army nurse. She also completed her certification in anesthesia at the University Of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Ruth married Mayne (“Woody”) Woods in Reese, Michigan. She worked as a Nurse Anesthetist for Annapolis Hospital in Wayne. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, racing airplanes, hunting, fishing the Great Lakes and deep sea fishing, water skiing, bowling, camping, snowmobiling, and traveling. Ruth was a member of The Ninety-Nines (“99ers”), The International Organization of Woman Pilots.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sue, son-in-law, Gary, granddaughters, Olivia and Julia, and many other family members and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Woody.
Ruth’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her friends and family for the kindness and love that contributed to the richness of her life and purpose.
