Reatha Hughes of Caro, age 91, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital in Marlette. She was born December 25, 1923 at home in Grant Township, Huron County, the daughter of the late Richard William and Cora Belle (LaVigne) Cliff, and grew up in the Owendale area. Reatha came to Caro in 1988, and has lived here since. She was employed with General Cable in Cass City for twenty-five years, retiring in 1986. Reatha was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caro, and active in the Elmwood Quilters Group since 1980. Reatha is survived by two sons and two daughters, Janet Richardson of Fostoria, Larry Hughes and his friend, Diane Smith, of Okemos, Richard Hughes and his friend, Teresa Griffith, of Millington, Kathleen and Dave Harris of Caseville; nine grandchildren, nine great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Ercelle Pelton, Bernice Pelton, her twin sister, Leatha Czapla, and Irma Chisholm; one granddaughter, Robin Blasius; and one son-in-law, Doug Richardson. In keeping with Reatha’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
