CARO — Voters in Tuscola County approved two out of three millage proposals during Tuesday’s election.
Voters supported funding veteran services as well as Caro Community School District’s bonding proposal for improvements, but rejected the proposal to fund economic development.
The request to approve .17 of a mill for six years to fun the Tuscola County Veteran Affairs office passed by a margin of nearly two to one with 68.66 percent of the voters saying yes to 31.34 percent saying no.
The results were 2,835 “yes” votes to 1,294 “no” votes.
The results are unofficial until verified by the Tuscola County Election Commission.
The millage will generate about $274,000 the first year and allow the department to operate full time with expanded services instead of just three days a week.
Caro Community School District’s bond request for a 2.6 mill increase for facility improvements passed with 1,029 “yes” votes to 722 “no” votes.
There was a closer margin for this election with 58.77 percent supporting the millage with 41.23 percent opposing it.
The results are unofficial until verified by Tuscola County Election Commission.

By a margin of nearly two to one, voters rejected the proposal of .20 of a mill for six years to fund Tuscola County Economic Development Corporation operations with 60.72 percent opposing the request and 39.28 percent supporting it.
The proposal failed in a vote of 2,487 “no” votes to 1,609 “yes” votes.
The results are unofficial until verified by the Tuscola County Election Commission.
The commission starts the verification process Wednesday (today) afternoon.
