Leo A. Amend, 77, passed away Tuesday morning February 24, 2015 at Veterans Hospital in Saginaw, MI.
Leo was born April 17, 1937 , in Bay City, MI to Paul and Pauline (Reil) Amend. On June 2, 1962 he married Nancy Gromek.
He is survived by his mother Pauline Amend of Frankenmuth; his five children Terri and (Mitch) Brinks of Grand Haven, MI; Tony Amend of Vassar; MI; Tracy and (Bob) Matcham, of Antlers, OK; Troy and (Paula) Amend of Howell, MI; and Ty and Michelle Amend of Vassar, MI; 13 grandchildren Abbey, Jared, Max, Mason, Emily, Bethany, Jake, McKenna, Riley, Zach, Ryan, Logan, and Matthew. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law Al and (Dee) Amend of Soper, OK.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, in 2013.
Leo valiantly served his country as a member of the Marine Corps. When he returned to civilian life he became the proud owner Leo’s Union Service Center in Vassar, MI. He was well known for his “23 ? Hour” wrecker /towing service. Leo also owned several homes. He also served his community as a Little League Baseball coach for many years. His membership with the Eagles and the Moose Lodge in Caro also enabled him to do many worthwhile projects in the communities with which he was involved. He was also a much loved bus driver for Vassar Public Schools.
Friends visited at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, MI on Friday February 27 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm and also on Saturday February 28 from 11:00 am until the funeral service begins. Funeral services for Leo will be on Saturday February 28, 2015, at 1:00 pm at the Hanlin Funeral Home. Pastor Perry Parker from the Veterans Affairs Memorial Center will officiate.
