Delores “Dee” Burkel of Caro, age 73, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center – Cooper in Saginaw. Dee was born July 4, 1941 in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of the late Graham “Gray” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Troxler) Mason. She was united in marriage with Bert Burkel on July 25, 1983 in Caro, and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2011. Dee was employed in the Billing Department at Caro Community Hospital for eighteen years, retiring in 1985. She enjoyed motorcycle and casino trips, as well as playing cards, especially Euchre and Poker. Dee was a member of the Caro Moose Lodge since June of 1978, and spent countless hours cooking funeral meals there with Bert, and volunteering for other activities and events. She also enjoyed spending winters with Bert in Arizona. Dee was a dedicated grandmother, and cherished time spent with her great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are two children, Kim Wood of Bay City, Deb Brady of Caro; three grandchildren, Taren Smith-Townsend, Jill Brady, Shane Brady; four great-grandchildren, Faith MacDonald, Kendra Townsend, Jacob MacDonald, Grace Brady; one sister and her husband, Betty and Dave Goldsworthy of Las Vegas, Nevada; two brothers, Ed and Kenn Wiberg-Coleman of Grand Blanc, George Wiberg of Flint; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was preceded in death by the father of her children, Joyce “Woody” Wood; and one step-daughter, Cheri Burkel. Memorial Services will be held beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with the W.O.T.M. Lodge 940, Loyal Order of the Moose followed by Pastor Dave Wilczynski officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Delores Burkel Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Deb Brady, 205 West Sherman St., Caro, MI 48723.
