CARO — Superintendent Michael Joslyn received his first annual review from school board members at a closed session meeting Monday night.

Joslyn was rated “effective”  out of the categories “highly effective,” “effective,”  “minimally effective” and “ineffective.”

Board members based formal evaluation on Joslyn’s relationship with the board, staff and community as well as feedback received from them, his understanding of the school’s budget and funding, and his development of the School Improvement Plan. Student attendance, enrollment growth and Joslyn’s personality and leadership skills were also considered.

Joslyn continues to emphasize the importance of “cultivating excellence” in education. He said he is proud of the progress he’s witnessed and is excited to see what the future holds.

“I am looking forward to seeing Caro Community Schools regaining the top spot in the county in all facets of our educational institution,” Joslyn said. “We have a great community, great staff and awesome kids. Infusing support of our community will only help us to grow.”

Board President Dean Tomlinson said Joslyn’s positive impact since he assumed the position July 1, 2014 is evident.

“The results of the Board’s formal evaluation speak of the great work that Mr. Joslyn has accomplished (in) these short eight months,” Tomlinson said. “I look forward to the many improvements being made to our school system and by extension, our community.”

Superintendent formal evaluations are completed every March.

Although it was not a requirement, Joslyn also requested an evaluation by the staff to gain a deeper understanding of his performance level.
