Paul Frederick Hoerlein, age 68 years, of Vassar died peacefully at home on March 24, 2015. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Frederick Hoerlein and Rose Ann (Rupprecht). Paul was a life-long member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville, where he also attended school through the eighth grade. He was a 1965 graduate of Vassar High School. Paul served in the Army Reserves and had a 38 1/2 year career with the Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi. He began as hourly, became a Journeyman tool and die maker and retired as Superintendent of Central Fab and Construction. In his younger years, he enjoyed ham radio and making wine. Paul loved to fish, hunt, cut wood, do woodworking, watch NASCAR and spend time in Au Gres. Most of all, he loved his family. Paul used to be a Little League umpire, a church usher, a member of the Denmark Twp. Board of Review, treasurer for the Richville Fire Dept. and a member of the Richville American Legion. Surviving family include his wife, Mary (Hill) of Vassar; sons, Matthew Hoerlein of Saginaw, Christopher Hoerlein of Richville and Jonathan and wife, Michelle, of Richville; grandchildren, Creadence, Isaiah, Natalie and Luke. Paul also is survived by his faithful dog, Diamond. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John and Philip. Funeral service was held on Friday, March 27, 2015, at the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. The Rev. Wes Gillaspie and the Rev. Robert Gadeken officiated. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar.
