Maxine M. Read, 93, of Cass City, died Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 in Timberline Lodge, Caro. She was born May 26, 1921 in Novesta Township to Percy G. and Emma M. (McCool) Read. Maxine worked as a retail sales person for Knepps Department Store in Bay City for over 32 years. In their younger years Maxine and her sister, Anabell taught MSU Extension classes in Tuscola County. Maxine and Anabell traveled a great deal visiting at least seven Canadian provinces and California and Florida. Maxine was a member of Deford Community Church. She was talented when it came to home improvement projects. She enjoyed singing and listening to gospel hymns. Maxine was an avid letter writer. She enjoyed people and having friends stop for a visit. Maxine is survived by her dear friends and neighbors: Chris and Mike Diegel of Cass City, Joe and JoAnn Steadman of Cass City. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother and dear sister, Anabell. Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor David Cooper of Deford Community Church officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Ms. Read: Bernie Babich, Ken Klinkman, Joe Mellendorf, Jim Ware and Dan Allen. Memorials may be made to Deford Community Church.
