LEATRICE L. CAMPBELL, Caro

Leatrice L. Campbell of Caro, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw, following a brief illness. Leatrice was born May 29, 1923 in Gilford, the daughter of the late Deyo and Beatrice (Aldrich) Haines.  She graduated from Vassar High School with the Class of 1941 and was united in marriage married shortly thereafter on June 21, 1941 to Leo L. Campbell in Caro.  Leo preceded her in death on January 9, 2013 after seventy-one years of marriage.  Leatrice grew up on a farm and also assisted Leo with the operation of their family farm. She was also employed as an attendant at the Heatherstone Nursing Home in Caro and then worked at the Caro Regional Center as a cook for fifteen years, retiring in 1974. Leatrice was a member of the Gilford United Methodist Church until its closure, and was currently a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Fairgrove Senior Citizens Club and was one of the Detroit Tiger’s greatest fans. She enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors as well as gardening.  Leatrice is survived by three children, Dale and Gail Campbell of Vassar, Bruce and Mary Lou Campbell of Lansing, Nancy and Dale McCollum of Caro; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, State Trooper Leo Campbell, Jr. and Dennis Campbell; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating.  Burial will follow at the Gilford Township Cemetery in Gilford.  The family received friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church.  The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro.  Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
