Arlene Dorothy (Gauderer) Plain, age 88 of Mayville, MI, passed away Tuesday, April 14. 2015 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper, in Saginaw, MI. Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, April 18, 2015, at St Paul Lutheran Church of Mayville, MI with Pastor Terry Balogh officiating. The family will receive visitors 2-8 PM Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Avram Funeral Home in Mayville, MI, and from 10AM until time of service at the church. Internment well be at Fremont Township Cemetery. Suggested memorials may be made to Jim Plain Sports Foundation or The Mayville District Library. Arlene was born June 29, 1926, to Ernest and Edna (Bodies) Gauderer in Flint, MI. She was a long time resident of Mayville/Silverwood area, and graduated from Mayville High School in 1944. Arlene married James C. Plain, February 25, 1946 after his return from WWII, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mayville, MI. Arlene worked for Riley’s Ice Cream Shop, while going to high school, Blackmore and Tubbs, for approximately 9 years, and was the secretary for Mayville High School superintendent, Jerome Theines for three years. Arlene and her husband Jim were in partnership with Roger and Phyllis McKellar, while owning the Mayville Food Locker. She also worked 18 years with her husband Jim in their insurance business. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church before it moved into town off of Snover Rd, and a member of a women’s bowling team in Mayville for over 25 years with the same members, and a member of the women’s golfing team at the Greenbriar Golf Course. Arlene and her husband enjoyed raising race horses, and the farm life. She loved spending time with family and friends, watching baseball on TV, gardening and good chocolate. Arlene is survived by her son: Douglas (Sally) Plain of Reno, NV, Brother Robert (Judy) Gauderer of Birch Run, MI, Daughter-in-law Deborah Plain of Grand Blanc, five grandchildren: Casey (Christina) Plain of Belmont, CA, Adam (Renee) Plain of Carson City, NV, Monica (Greg) Robinson of Lk Orion, MI, Jeremy (Heather) Plain of Grand Rapids, MI, Travis (Julie) Plain of Grand Rapids, MI, nine great grandchildren: Branden and Jenna Robinson, Mason and Sadie Plain, Darren and Mason K Plain,Weston and Kohen Plain, and Henry Plain. Sister-in-law Phyllis Plain Baldwin of Linden MI, two brothers-in-law John (Marilyn) Plain of Silverwood, MI, and Wayne Plain, of Mayville, MI, Many nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Jim, in 2005, two sons: James D. Plain in 2004 and David Paul in 1956, both parents, one sister Janet Reed in 1997, and her beloved grandpa and grandma, Tillie and Emil Bodeis.
