ELAINE MARIE GRIFKA Caro

Elaine Marie Grifka of Caro, age 65, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Caro Community Hospital in Caro.  Elaine was born December 31, 1949 in Harbor Beach, the daughter of the late Franklin and Mary (Guitar) Schroeder.  She was a 1968 graduate of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School, and also attended various classes through the Catholic church for lay ministry.  After graduating from high school, Elaine worked in Detroit as a secretary for a brokerage firm, and most recently was employed as a cashier for Walmart for seventeen years.  Elaine was united in marriage with James Grifka on April 18, 1970 in Freiberg, and he preceded her in death on November 10, 2009.   She was a faithful member of St. Christopher Parish, a teacher in its SPRED program, and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.  Elaine taught religious education for thirty-five years along with serving the church as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.  She enjoyed reading, listening to music, word search puzzles, bowling, biking, walking, ceramics, traveling and camping trips.   Elaine is survived by five children and their spouses, Joseph Grifka of Caro, Sheila Polzin of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael and Mandy Grifka of Saginaw, Maria and Jeff Williams of Lansing, Theresa Grifka of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, McKenzie and Grace Polzin, Abigail, Emily and Olivia Grifka; two sisters, Doreen Peterson of Bad Axe and Judy Gwizdalla and her husband, Elmer, of Bad Axe.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Gertrude Schroeder; one son-in-law, Greg Polzin; and many of her in-laws.   A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Campus in Caro with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating.  Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Caro.  The family was present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.  There was a Rosary service on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the St. Christopher Parish or the American Cancer Society.  The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro.  Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
