MILLINGTON — Board of Education members here voted unanimously Saturday night to choose Bruce Martin as new Millington Community Schools superintendent, and hope to sign a contract in the coming weeks with Martin, a Clarkston Community Schools elementary principal.

“You are what we’re looking for,” one board member told Martin as Martin shook hands with board members after they chose him over Mark Williams, a high school principal for Standish-Sterling Community Schools.

The board gave second interviews to Martin and Williams on Saturday night as the two remaining finalists from among 22 applicants.

Martin, who lives in Genesee County’s Davison Township, is principal of Andersonville Elementary School in the Clarkston school district. He worked previously as assistant superintendent of Clio Area Schools.

After Tim Berlin departed as Millington superintendent more than two years ago, Millington hired John Males as interim superintendent and, most recently, has paid to share Tom Palmer as superintendent of the Vassar and Millington school districts.

Palmer serves as superintendent of both districts through June 30.

Millington, with 1,290 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, expects its new superintendent to start work on or before July 1, according to an online advertisement.

Hartman Consulting of Haslett conducted the superintendent search for Millington, attracting 22 applicants. The Millington board interviewed eight finalists this week.
