Ruth A. Bernhardt, age 94, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. Born in Bay Port on January 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Ernst and Elsie (Thede) Bolzman, and attended the Kilmanagh Lutheran School. On June 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Joseph “Joe” Bernhardt at the family home. They were married more than 68 years when Joe passed away on June 9, 2010. Before marriage, Ruth worked at the Pigeon Hotel. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and canning. She enjoyed playing euchre and Bingo, and watching Detroit Tigers baseball. She especially enjoyed spending time with her five-generation family. Ruth was an active, faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, and was also a member of the Ladies Aid. She dearly loved her church family. She is survived by her two children, Lynn and Dave Dearing of Cass City and Jerry and Phoebe Bernhardt of Caro; grandchildren: Kelly and Scott Kelley, Tammy and Gary Lowe, Joey Dearing, Kristi and John Atkinson, and Jeremy and Samantha Bernhardt; ten great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Bolzman. In addition to her husband, Joe, preceding her in death were sisters, Luella Irrer and Doris Gruehn, and brothers, Raymond and Lloyd Bolzman. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Rev. Chris Suggitt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon on Friday, August 7the from 2 – 8 p.m. and at St.l Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville on Saturday, August 8th from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.
