Alfred Joseph Jankowski of Caro, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Alfred was born February 11, 1932 in Detroit, the son of Polish immigrants Stanley and Antionette (Brezski) Jankowski. Alfred and his family moved from Detroit to Capac where his father started Stanley’s Bakery and had a small family farm. As the bakery became successful, the family moved the business to Caro where Alfred attended high school. He was a member of the varsity football team, yearbook staff and several other scholastic clubs. Upon graduation in 1950, Alfred went on to attend Central Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration. Alfred enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged two years later. Alfred spent the beginning of his business career in the Detroit area working for Al Greene Enterprises until his marriage to Marilyn Green on October 6, 1962. He entered the family business by starting Stanley’s Lapeer Bakery & Coffee Shop, which also had a wholesale route. Upon the restructuring of downtown Lapeer, Alfred expanded his whole bakery route and spent forty-two years in the bakery business. Alfred also drove morning school bus for over twenty years at Caro Community Schools. The love that he shared with his wife, Marilyn, brought two sons into the world, David and Gregory. As his boys grew up, Alfred shared their involvement in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was Awards Chairman for Cub Scout Pack 3562 and served on the Committee of Troops 360 and 570. Alfred himself was a Boy Scout in his youth and served as a summer counselor at Camp Rotary. Family travel was a large enjoyable time for Alfred. He spent many weekends camping with his family. Alfred is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Marilyn; two sons, David and Nancy Jankowski of Birch Run, Gregory and Michelle Jankowski of Troy; two grandchildren, McKenzie and Andrea Jankowski; two step-grandchildren, Matthew Tanner and his wife, Bailey, Erinn Tanner and her fiancé, Rick Reidel; one great-step-grandchild, Cooper Tanner; brother, Norbert Jankowski; brother-in-law, Dr. Walter B.
