Richard “Dick” Prime of Fairgrove, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw, following a long fought battle with heart disease and cancer. He was born September 29, 1943 in Caro, the son of Delos and Dorothy (O’Connor) Prime. On October 10, 1964, he was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, the former Barbara Kirk, in Fairgrove, where they have lived and are loved by many friends and family. Dick worked many years in the fertilizer and propane business, and was a dedicated fireman on the Fairgrove Fire Department for over twenty-eight years until he retired due to health reasons. He was a member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, and was also very involved in the Michigan Bean Festival for numerous years, volunteering in many capacities. Dick’s true passion was people. He always made conversation with people wherever he went, whether he knew them for years or was just meeting them for the first time. He loved cars and spent countless hours in his shed tinkering with things and shining his ’72 Chevelle. He had millions of conversations in that shed with countless friends and neighbors stopping by each day to visit or catch up on the latest news. In his earlier years, Dick enjoyed tractor pulling and going to Silver Lake every weekend to spend time on the sand dunes with his family and friends, and driving his numerous Jeeps. He enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, attending their sporting events and activities and spending the last few winters in warm sunny Arizona with the younger ones. He will be greatly missed by all who enjoyed his company. Dick is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Barbara Prime; two daughters and their husbands, Theresa and Tim Timko of Caro, Paula and Pat Hozza of Scottsdale, Arizona; four loving grandchildren, Nicholas Timko of Miami Beach, Florida, Brenden Timko of Caro, and Pierson and Parker Hozza of Arizona; two brothers and their wives, Jim and Lynn Prime and Bob and Susie Prime, all of Fairgrove; brother- and sister-in-law, Bill and Linda Kirk of Fairgrove; sister-in-law, Suzanne Kirk of Saginaw; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church with Revs. Richard Lawther and Michele Hile officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. The family was present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Fairgrove Fire Department. The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro. Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
