Geneva B. Richards, Cass City

Geneva B. Richards, age 83, of Cass City, died following a long illness Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit, Cass City. She was born September 19, 1932 in Independence, MO to E.Y. and Nellie (Smith) Hunker. She married Donald B. Richards June 21, 1958 in Harbor Beach. Geneva was a graduate of William Chrisman High School, Independence, MO. She attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA and Saginaw Valley State University. Geneva was a substitute teacher and library aid. She served as Elder and Pastor in the Community of Christ congregations of Owendale and Marlette. She also was the church pianist, organist and loved directing family and youth camps. Geneva was an avid reader and especially enjoyed helping others find good books. She enjoyed knitting and needlepoint, animals and nature. Geneva sang in several choirs, offering solos in several choirs also. She played the piano and organ and especially enjoyed her role as President of the Cass City Tom Thumb Singers choir for many years. Her family was her first priority, and she enjoyed following them in all their activities. Geneva is survived by her husband, Donald; children: Marci (Robert) Anderson of White Lake, Eric (Theresa) Richards of Salem, OR, Scott (Janet) Richards of Cass City, Julie (David) Bitzer of Unionville; grandchildren: Ryan (Nikia) Anderson, Theresa (Russell) Andersoning, Kylie Richards, McKenzie Richards, Stephanie Richards, Allyn Richards, Jennica Richards, Janel Bitzer, Trevor Bitzer; great-grandchildren: Noah, Claire, Emrik, Myrna, Alexa, Kaleb, Griffin and Cameron; sisters: L. Juanita (Robert) Sutherland of Gulf Breeze, FL, Roberta (Jack) Caldwell of Croswell. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, William Hunker. The family will be present to receive friends at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorial service held 1 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 in Northwood Meadows Gathering Hall with Owendale Community of Christ ministers officiating, with a meal following the service. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit, Home and Hospice Advantage, Hills and Dales General Hospital, Rawson Memorial Library or Owendale Community of Christ congregation.
