Earl C. Boitel Jr., 79, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, January 5, 2014 in his home. He was born December 1, 1934 to the late Earl C. and Amelia E. (Deering) Boitel Sr. Earl graduated from Caro High School in 1952, with a full scholarship to Michigan State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He attended two rose bowls where he played trumpet with the marching band, graduating in 1956. He is a retired Colonel from the United States Army, and also retired from NASA, where he was chief of construction. He also worked at General Motors and Ohio Edison. He was a member of St. Stephen UCC, where he loved to sing in the choir, and was a member of the Harlequins Community Theatre for many years. Earl is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dolores A. (Wilke) Boitel; son, Michael E. Boitel of Sandusky; two daughters, Jan (Frank Williams) Kelly of Latta, SC., and Amelia B. Boitel of Sandusky; grandson, Jarred M. Truman; great grand-daughter, Jaelynn H. Truman of Latta, SC. Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley (Smith) Boitel.
