Our Heavenly Father called Joan Rushlo home to His loving arms on January 6th, 2014. Joan passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona under the care of Hospice of the Valley. Joan Mae Erbisch was born December 30th, 1934 in Sebewaing, Michigan. She was the daughter of Wilson and Luella Erbisch. She was a graduate of Sebewaing High School, class of 1952. On September 30, 1953 she was united in marriage to David Rushlo of Caro, Michigan. Soon after their marriage, Joan joined David in Alaska while he completed his service in the army. Once completed, they settled in Michigan for approximately 20 years before moving to Scottsdale, Arizona. Joan was a strong Christian from her youth and shared her faith throughout her life. She was involved with The Walther League in Michigan. She assisted pastors with youth Confirmation classes after moving to Arizona for health concerns. She was a very accomplished quilter and woodcarver. Joan was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. Joan had suffered with Alzheimer’s for many years. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, David Rushlo of Scottsdale, Arizona, her son Robin (Kathy) Rushlo of Iowa City, Iowa, her son Jeff (Lisa) Rushlo of Peoria, Arizona, her daughter Heidi (Terry) Leavitt of Phoenix, Arizona, her sister Gail (Dr. Gerhardt) Meyer of Napah, Idaho, as well as precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Holy Cross Lutheran in Scottsdale or Hospice of the Valley. Visitation is Monday, January 13th from 7pm-8:30 pm at Messinger Mortuaries, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85251. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 14th, 10am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3110 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85251. Internment will follow at 12:30 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona, 85024
