THUMB AREA — Because Fremont Township residents were concerned about a loud noise they hear early Wednesday morning help arrived within minutes for a woman who was trapped in her vehicle.
At about 12:32 a.m. Tuscola County Central Dispatch received a call about a loud bang and possible crash in the area of Snover Road between Conrad and Leix roads.
While Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers from the Caro Post were in route to the accident, Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department deputies, who were in the area responding to another call, arrived on the scene first.
The deputies found a pick-up truck had left the roadway and rolled over in a ditch, and the female driver unresponsive, explained the press release from the MSP.
“The Mayville EMS and Mayville Fire (personnel) were able to free the female from the pick-up,” said the release. “The female, a 40-year old Mayville area resident, was transported by Mayville EMS to McLaren Bay for treatment of her non-life threatening injuries.”
The release noted that “speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash,” which remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Tuscola sheriff deputies, Mayville Fire Department, and Mayville EMS.
Also the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department, responded to a two-vehicle accident about 3:58 p.m., Tuesday on N. Lakeshore Road approximately a quarter mile south of Basler Road in Sanilac Township.
According to the police report, a Chrysler Town and Country Minion driven by an 80-year-old Port Sanilac man was southbound on N. Lakeshore Road when he lost control of his vehicle and went into the oncoming lane colliding with a northbound Dodge Van driven by a 30-year-old man from Kinde.
The Kinde man was treated and released at the scene with minor injuries. The 80-year-old Pt. Sanilac man was transported by EMS to a local hospital for minor injuries.
The incident remains under investigation, and names will not be released due to possible pending charges.
