HURON COUNTY — A 40-year old Deford man is facing felony charges from an incident that happened in Huron County Jan. 30.

At about 3 p.m., Huron County Deputy David Navock responded to a call from a 56-year old woman who claimed she had been assaulted about 9 a.m. that day with a gun at S. Elkton Rd. residence in Grant Township, in Huron County.

According to the police report, Sandra L. Harwood said she had been living at that residence with friends for a couple weeks when she was confronted by their 40-year old son who was insisted that she move out.

“She said after the confrontation, the son went to a nearby relative’s residence and came back with what turned out to be a  410 shotgun. She stated he then again demanded that she leave and pointed the gun at her, threatening her,” explained Huron Sheriff Kelly Hanson. “After a brief alleged physical assault, she was able to pack her belongings up and left.”

The investigation of Deputies Navock and Jake Dhyse led them to the suspect’s residence on Spencer Rd. near Deford.

With the assistance of Tuscola County Sheriff Department’s Sgt. Mike Mattlin, John S. Russell Jr. was confronted, questioned, and arrested.

Russell was taken into custody and arraigned in Huron County District Court on charges of aggravated assault, and a $10,000 cash bond was set.

Also, Huron deputies apprehended a former Ubly man in Port Austin who was wanted on several warrants.

At about 3 p.m. Saturday, Gary M. Partaka, 39, was taken into custody for two failure to appear felony warrants issued in Sanilac County, seven Huron County failure to appear misdemeanor warrants. His bond was sent at $3,500.

The arrest was able to be made because of a tip called in about Partaka’s location.

Criminal activity can be reported to (989) 269-6500 during regular business hour or Central Huron Dispatch at (989) 269-6421, or the Confidential TIP LINE at (989) 269-2861.
