Dennis Maxwell Cartwright of Fairgrove Township, age 71, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas. Dennis was born September 25, 1942 in Bay City, the son of the late William and Clara (McCreedy) Cartwright. He was united in marriage with the former Maryann Culbert on August 1, 1964 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, and she survives him. He farmed with Ellis Aldrich until he hired in at General Motors, where he worked until his retirement. Dennis belonged to Fisher Body UAW Local 581, was a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War Huested-LeValley Camp 255, and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. Dennis enjoyed his family, wood carving, watching the ships in Port Huron, old cars and old westerns. He never met a cat that didn’t like him, and is sadly missed by his dog, Sadie. Dennis is survived by his wife, Maryann Cartwright; four children, Kenneth & Patricia Cartwright of Caro, Carrie Cartwright of Missouri City, Texas, Matthew & Ronda Cartwright of Caro, Jennifer & Bryan Peckham of Fairgrove; seven grandchildren, Gavin, Jared and his wife, Lindsey, Theresa, Hannah, Zenan, Erin and Kaden; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Morrison; siblings, Jeanette & Mar Staschke of Detroit, Marian & Jim Kraatz of Dearborn, Elizabeth & Norman Nickel of Reese, William & Julie Cartwright of Caro, Diane Middaugh of Cass City, Daniel & Marlene Cartwright of Fenton; two brothers-in-law, Mark & Dolores Culbert, Mike & Barb Culbert, all of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Joan Taylor, Margaret “Mickey” Gross and Sarah “Sally” Tolfree. The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. The family received friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 am.
