MICHIGAN — When government organizations place weight restrictions on highways, it’s a sure sign that spring is just around the corner.
In Tuscola County, commercial and heavy trucks traffic restrictions went into effect on roadways 7 a.m., Monday, March 17, according to Tuscola County Road Commission Director of Finance Mike Tuckey.
Weight restrictions are put on during the period of thawing and freezing to reduce road damage. The restrictions apply to all county roads, paved or gravel. However, there are no restrictions for legal axle weight loads on roads designated as “all-season trunklines.” Tuckey said that any further changes will be noted on the road commission’s website, www.tuscolaroad.org.
Also, statewide weight restrictions took effect on state trunkline highways in the lower peninsula at 6 p.m. Friday, March 14. The weight restrictions will apply to state routes with M, I or US designations south of and including US-10 in Ludington east to M-47, south to M-46, and east to Port Sanilac. 2014 weight restrictions will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways from the Michigan/Indiana & Ohio line north to and including the entire stretch of I-96 at Grand Haven, east to and including I-69 Lansing to Port Huron, St. Clair County. State trunkline highways typically carry M, I, or US designations.

Caro places weight restrictions in city limits
Caro City Manager Jared Olson recently sent a request on behalf of the Caro city council asking businesses to restrict heavy truck travel to Class-A streets.
Olson included a city map that highlights all of the Class-A streets in the community in the letter that was sent to local businesses. For more information about Caro street weight restrictions, call the city at (989) 673-7671.
