Delmer August Kurzer, age 88 years old, passed away Sunday evening, March 23, 2014, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland, with his family present. He was born on September 12, 1925 in Sebewaing, Michigan, the son of the late August and Pearl (Gascho) Kurzer. Delmer was a crop and egg farmer for most of his life. He also was a pilot, ran a saw mill and was an inventor. Delmer helped build Huron County’s first all electric house, in which he lived, using lumber from his property. Surviving family include his children, Delmer August (Ruth) Kurzer Jr., Terry Rance (Lana) Kurzer, Scott Henry (Sandy) Kurzer, Elizabeth Anne (George) Hompstead and Mary Catherine (Warren) Kuhl; step-children, Janice (Rod) Tanner and Jim (Rachel) Kegerreis; grandchildren, David (Alicia) Kurzer, Jonathan (Julie) Kurzer, Elizabeth Kurzer, Christina (Zachary) Castonguay, Benjamin (Felice) Kurzer, Nathanael (Tabitha) Kurzer, Timothy (Maggie) Kurzer, Brian (Catherine) Kurzer, Emily Kurzer, Heather (Chris) Saenz, Justin Lesoski, Hope Harp, Sara (fiancé Kenneth Brown) Lesoski, Jane (James) Class, Karl (Angela) Kurzer, Sarah (fiancé Philip Jacobus) Kurzer, Alister (fiancée Jewel Emrich) Kurzer, Karie (Jesse) VanNoord, Gregory Kurzer, Catherine (Chris) Grzegorczk, Michelle Hompstead, Michael Hompstead, Tamara (Terry) Grills, Tyler Kuhl, Travis Kuhl, Trisha Kuhl and TobyLee Kuhl; step-grandchildren, Jillian Tanner, Rod (Amanda) Tanner, Johanna Kegerreis and Jacobus Kegerreis; 34 great-grandchildren; also surviving are three sisters, Gladys Weidman, Orpha Bauer and Arlene (Glen) Faist. Delmer was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Catherine “Kitty” Kurzer, second wife, Mary Ellen Kurzer and his last wife, Anna Laura Kurzer. He was also preceded in death by his step-son, Darrel Frost; and his brothers, Melvin and Donald Kurzer and sisters, Doris Sonntag, Della Sonntag and Virginia Brown. Funeral service will be on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tri County Worship Center, 609 W. Midland Rd. in Auburn. Pastor Marc Alba officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sebewaing. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 608 N. Madison Ave. in Bay City and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Bay Shore Camp or Tri County Worship Center.
