HURON COUNTY — A two-vehicle accident over the weekend claimed the life of four Huron County residents.
At approximately 7:09 p.m. Saturday, the Huron County Sheriff Department responded to the report of an accident at the intersection of Stein and Maxwell roads in Oliver Township.
While the incident remains under investigation, the preliminary investigation indicates a 2012 GMC pickup driven and solely occupied by Andrew R. Braun, age 22 of Ubly and a 2011 Chevrolet crew cab pickup containing six occupants, impacted at that intersection.
Those occupying the Chevrolet pickup, of which it appears three were ejected from were: Joshua C. Heck age 40, Jessica A. Heck age 38, Jacob A. Langley age 20, Jarrod R. Heck age 15, Taylor J. Heck age 13, all related and from the Pigeon area, 13-year-old Brendon Smith from Caseville.
“Unfortunately, fatal injuries claimed the lives of Joshua Heck, Jessica Heck, Taylor Heck, and Brendon Smith,” explained Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson. “The survivors were initially transported to the Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon by the Scheurer, Elkton, Central Huron and Sebewaing Ambulance Services. Due to their injuries, they were all eventually transported to out of county hospitals, with one going to a Saginaw area hospital and the other two going to a Flint area hospital.”
Those who are being treated are Braun, Jacob Langley and Jarrod Heck.
Autopsies have been ordered on the victims.
About 190 gathered Sunday afternoon at Lakers Schools for a memorial and community support.
Other agencies that assisted at the scene were the Oliver Township Fire Department, Elkton Village Police, Pigeon Village Police and the Michigan State Police.
