Carlton Engle of Caro, age 93, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro. He was born April 26, 1921 in Harbor Beach, the son of the late Charles and Emma (Seltz) Engle. Carlton was a graduate of Port Hope High School, and served in the Army Air Corp during WWII from 1942 until 1945. Carlton was united in marriage with the former Phyllis Currie on April 26, 1942 in Harbor Beach, and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2006. Carlton held executive positions in agriculture; first as president of Bad Axe Grain Company and then as vice-president for Blount Inc., Agri Business Division in Saginaw until his retirement. He was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. Carlton is survived by three children and their spouses, Richard Engle of Fort Gratiot, Cheryl & Joel Hord of Boca Raton, Florida, Marilyn & Traver Wood of Charlevoix; seven grandchildren, Sara (Hans) VonBernthal, Jessica (Doug) Cleland, Christy McGuckin, Paul Hord, Christie Hord, Adam Wood and his fiancé, Meaghan Sell, and Elissa Wood; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Carlton’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Educational Building Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
