George Wright, Sr. of Lincoln, age 91, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from Lincoln Haven in Lincoln. He was born April 6, 1923 in Cass City, the son of the late Charles and Emily (Cole) Wright. George was a Cass City High School graduate, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage with the former Florence McLellan on December 3, 1943 in Cass City, and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2008. When George returned from the armed forces, he went to work as an attendant nurse at the Caro State Hospital where he was employed for thirty years until his retirement. For a period of five years the Wright’s had a dog obedience school. After his retirement, they moved to Arizona and later returned to Michigan. He enjoyed Euchre, cooking, playing his guitar and wood working. George belonged to the Lincoln Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, and with that choir he sang at Lincoln Haven. George is survived by his children, George Jr. & Pat Wright of Mikado, Shari & Jerry Tompkins of Fostoria; a daughter-in-law, Judy of Caro; six grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgene Hurd of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Wright in January of 1978; a grandson, Keegan Stieler; as well as the remainder of his siblings. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Cliff Jordan of Watertown Center Bible Church officiating. In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation will follow the service. Burial will be in the Indianfields Township Cemetery at a late date.
