Clara Nagy, Vassar

Clara Nagy, age 96, of Vassar died peacefully Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Satchell’s Christian Retirement Adult Foster Care Home. The funeral will take place 11:00 am on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Martin Funeral Home–Vassar. Pastor David Somers will officiate with burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. Clara’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Saturday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to The Gideons International. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Clara was born May 19, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Louis and Mary (Kuzma) Cheek.  She married Emery Nagy in 1937.  Sadly he preceded her in death on April 25, 1975.  Clara worked at JC Penny’s for over 25 years until retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling to their cottage in the Upper Peninsula and spending winters in Arizona. She helped her husband on the family farm and enjoyed collecting rocks, lapidary, collecting stamps, making jewelry and knitting. Left to cherish her memory are her two children; son, Ron (Charlotte) Nagy and daughter, Emily Higgins; brother, Louis (Jane) Cheek; three grandchildren, Charon (Lyle) Benson, Lee Ayn (Jess) Ruiz and Trina Higgins, six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Gregory and Isaac Benson, Bobby-Jo Ruiz, Steven and Samantha Nagy and their mother Kelly Nagy; and great-great grandson, Gaven Pochinco and many nieces and nephews. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emery; five sisters and their spouses, Irene (Harold) Cummings, Mary (Cheatum) Deathridge, Velma (John) Durst, Florence (Wallace) Horne and Frances (George) Baranic; grandson Greg Nagy and son-in-law, Lyle Higgins.
