DALTON, Walter age 97 of Mt. Morris died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. Funeral service will take place 11:00 am Monday, June 16, 2014, at Community of Christ 2120 Wilmar Street Burton, MI 48509. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services on Saturday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Sunday, 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm. On Monday, Walter will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. With burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be directed to Community of Christ, envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Walter was born January 7, 1917, in Mancelona, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Garfield and Annie Mae (Witten) Dalton. Educated locally through Flint Community Schools, he graduated from Flint Central High School in 1934. He married the love of his life, Thelma Jean Morse on November 30, 1940. She precede him in death in 1986. Walter worked for GM Chevy Metal Fab for 33 years in shipping and receiving, retiring in 1973. He was a member of UAW #652. He stared in many plays with the Thumb Area Center for the Arts. In 1987, he married Hazel Chalou and she preceded him in death in 2013. Left to cherish his memory are six children, Marilyn Boring, Marjorie and husband, Carl Boettger, Martha Wilcox, Mark and wife, Maggie Dalton, Neil and wife, Ann Dalton and Mary and husband, Michael Vig; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alan; sons-in-law, Walter Boring and Barry Wilcox; brothers, James and Robert “Ducky” and sisters, Lula Mae “Tootie” and Mary Ellen.
