CARO — After years of dedicated service on the Tuscola Department of Human Services Board (TDHS) Chair Robert “Bob” Hirn is stepping down.
To honor his years of service on the board, Tuscola County Commis-sioners drafted a resolution for him.
“We assemble this day to celebrate Robert Hirn’s 15 years of meritorious service to the Tuscola County Medical Care Community and the Tuscola County Department of Human Services as their board chairperson,” said the resolution. “The leadership he provided to the staff created an environment for success and high quality.
“His never ending support for fulfilling the needs of our clients and residents clearly improved their quality of life.”
During his tenure, the medical care facility did an extensive remodel and expansion in 2005. Plus, earlier this month, ground was broken for a state-of-the-art small home facility where residents will be able to live in a home-like setting.
“What a great man. He has many accomplishments,” said board Chair Thom Bardwell noting Hirn also helped with the restoration of the Octagon Barn and Purdy House.
“Because of his support, plans were undertaken to move long-term care in Tuscola County into the future by planning and implementing the construction of two-small houses on newly acquired property adjacent to the main building,” stated the resolution. “We sincerely thank him for his unquestionable dedication and service to the Tuscola County Medical Care Community, its clients and staff, and the citizens of Tuscola County.”
Besides serving on the TDHS, Hirn also was a leader in education.
Hirn was on the Intermediate School District board in the beginning when it formed, helped form the Caro Building Center, and was a teacher, said Tuscola County Commissioner Roger Allen who is a former school administrator.
