CARO — During the Tuesday, Aug. 5, election voters will decide on a contested six-year seat on the Tuscola County Road Commission Board.
Incumbent John “Jack” Laurie (R) is challenged by newcomer Cody Thomas (R).
So voters could know a little more about the candidates, The Advertiser mailed questionnaires to each candidate asking: (1) What qualification, background, experience and education do you have that you feel would make you a good representative? (2) In your opinion, why should residents vote for you.
Jack Laurie
(1) As a candidate for Tuscola County Road Commission I feel my lifetime experience as a farmer and resident of our county along with thirty-five years of organization experience with the Michigan Farm Bureau of which I spent 14 years as president of the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies working directly with both State and Federal legislatures gives me the necessary background to serve the taxpayers of our county as a Road Commissioner.
My education includes graduating from Cass City High School then from Michigan State University with a degree in Agricultural Economics. I latter received an honorary Doctors degree in Agriculture from MSU.
(2) I believe the County taxpayers deserve the best representation they can get to safeguard their investment in our roads and bridges. With two terms experience on the commission, I feel I have the necessary understanding of road funding and what it will take to move us forward with limited resources while the legislature decides how to fund the roads as they need to be. I feel I can continue to bring to the table that expertise necessary to make that happen.
Cody Thomas
Thomas did not respond to the questionnaire by deadline.
The polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
