Virginia Anne (Hewitt) Marquardt, 81 of Marlette, went home to her heavenly Father on August 20, 2014 while at home, surrounded by her family.  Virginia was born March 13, 1933 near Kinde, MI to George and Meda (Newsome) Hewitt, the youngest of 7 children.   She graduated from Kinde High School in 1950 after convincing her parents to let her attend high school.  Virginia married Lester Marquardt on August 26, 1950.  In the early years of their marriage, they built 2 houses before settling in Kingston to raise their family.  While raising her children, she set an example of an honest days work by farming and working 28 years at Snover Stamping.  Virginia was very proud of her independence.  She loved to spend time in her garden, growing and canning vegetables for her family to last the entire year.  She passed this love on to her children and was always the go-to person with canning questions.  She especially loved her flower gardens and was proud to show them off, and loved that the birds enjoyed them as much as she did.  She enjoyed crocheting, making all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren many beautiful afghans and Christmas tree skirts.  She also gave many afghans as shower gifts, donated them to for numerous charity auctions, and personally crocheted and donated well over 200 lap blankets to the Veterans Hospital to honor those who have served our country.  She enjoyed playing card games like Skip-bo and Phase 10.  She taught her children many things by example; respect, hard work and the importance of education, to name a few.  She trained her children that because they were blessed to be part of a family, they all had to work together and do their part.  Her children fondly remember Mom’s Sunday fried chicken dinners, homemade cinnamon rolls and fresh baked bread.  Her children especially loved the years that they received her cinnamon rolls Christmas gifts.  Her grandchildren have fond memories of going to Grandma’s house and playing Tiddly Winks and Pick-Up Sticks.  They enjoyed sleepovers at Grandma’s and Grandma always had patience with them no matter how many lamps they broke.  The Great-Grandchildren loved the golf cart rides along  with her hugs and kisses while visiting Great Grandma.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons; David (Nelda) Marquardt of Kingston, Daniel (Della) Marquardt of Attica, Dale (Ellen) Marquardt of Kingston, Durrell (Laurie) Marquardt of Decker, Darryl (Evelyn) Marquardt of Kingston and Darrin Marquardt of Chipley, Fl.  Daughters; Diana (Flynn) Armstead of Hernando, Fl., Deborah Marquardt of Marlette, Darlene (Martin) Wolfe of Lapeer, Drenda (Brian) Phelps of Kingston and Della (Mark) James of Kingston.  Grandchildren; Michael Wilcox, Jeremy Powell, Zane Marquardt, Kimberly (Matthew) Strnad, Alicia (Anthony) Hamlin, Amanda Wolfe, Martin (Nicole) Wolfe, Alexander Wolfe, Timothy (Shawna) Marquardt, Eric (Lindsay) Marquardt, Justin Marquardt, James Marquardt, Brand Phelps, Coty Phelps, Hayley Phelps, Stephanie Marquardt, Richard Marquardt, Megan James, Dylan James and Mary (Steve) Long.  Great-Grandchildren; Bethany, Jacob, Christopher, Carlee, Tanner, Brice, Carson, Baylor, Turner, Isaac, Ashley, Emlee, Kenda, Nickolas and two on the way.  Step-Great Grandchildren;  Alyssa, Lexi, Makenzie and Josh.  Also many nieces, nephews and friends.  Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Son; Richard, Brothers; Durrell, Albert, Samuel and Russell Hewitt.  Sisters Eva Cummings, Lillian Greene and Goldie Lambert.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Marsh Funeral Chapel , Marlette, with Pastor Douglas Richardson officiating.  Cremation will follow  the funeral at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, with burial of cremains in Siple Cemetery.  While Virginia dearly loved flowers, she would also love in lieu of sending flowers, that a memorial donation  may be made to the family discretionary fund.  Visitation will be held on Sunday 2pm to 8pm and Monday 12noon to 1pm at Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.
