Joyce Benson, 83 of Reese, died Friday evening, October 10, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. She was born March 22, 1931 in Tuscola County, daughter of the late, John and Edith (Cramer) Crosby and was a graduate of Fairgrove High School. On March 27, 1948 she was married to Kenneth Benson in Tuscola County. He predeceased her in 1973. Joyce was employed as a secretary for twenty-five years at the Bay Medical Center in Bay City. She retired in 1994. She was an active member of the Reese United Methodist Church where she served on various boards and was Past President and Treasurer of the Reese United Methodist Women. Joyce was also active as a Trustee with the V.F.W. Post #7486 Auxiliary in Fairgrove and served as their Cancer Chairperson. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed being with her family. She also was an avid reader and Detroit Tigers fan. Surviving are her children and their spouses; Delbert and Mary Benson of Munger; Dinah and Tom DuRussel of Munger; Denise and Fred Hecht of Reese; and Debbie and Jim Hayward of Reese, eleven grandchildren; Darlene (George) Rierson, Stefanie (Tim) Marciniak, Kenneth (Stacie) Benson, Reid (Vita) Benson, Raymond DuRussel, Eric DuRussel, Janel (Craig) Hollenbaugh, Brent (Amy) Lynch, Rebecca Hayward, Jimmy (Stephanie) Hayward, Jessica (Max) Witucki and sixteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her one brother and two sisters, Lynn (Ruth) Cramer of Fairgrove; Joanne Causley of Fairgrove; and Jane Meyer of Oscoda and two brothers- in-law, Jim Bliss and Fuzz Coleman, both of Akron. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was predeceased by two sisters, Jeanne Obertein and Jerolyn Dinsmoore, her special friend, Harold Wiergowski and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral services took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from the Reese United Methodist Church. Pastor Jon Gougeon officiated with private family burial to take place later in the Gilford Township Cemetery. Joyce’s family received friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral home, 9940 Saginaw St. Reese on Monday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
