Verna G. Alfano, age 93 of Mayville, MI, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Fisher Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Mayville, MI. Funeral Service was held at 11 a.m., Monday October 27, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mayville with Pastor Terry Balogh officiating. Internment took place at Fremont Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, The Humane Society of Tuscola County, or to St. Luke’s Lutheran School of Vassar. Verna (Hogan) Alfano, was born to John and Mary (Juris) Hogan April 30, 1921 in Bad Axe, MI. She married Joseph J. Alfano May 25, 1937 in Saginaw, MI. Verna was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 60 plus years. Verna was employed at the gun factory in Saginaw making triggers for the Army during WWII, she also worked for Donald Gilbert, MD. of Mayville until 1963. Verna leaves behind 5 children: Joane (John) Putnam of Vassar, Millie (Lloyd) Withers of Mayville, Shelley (Keith) Murringer of Vassar, Vicki (Owen) Roberts of Mayville, Nick (Jan) of Mt. Pleasant. There are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also her dear friend and neighbor Violet Smith and her children. Preceded in death by: husband Joseph, brothers Joseph Hogan, Albert Hogan, sisters Julia, Ethel, Mary, Helen, Liz, and Grandson Mike Putnam. The family wish to express gratitude to Fisher Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care to our mother and to Pastor Terry Balogh for his guidance, care and concern for Verna and family.
