ELMER FAUST, Caro

Elmer Faust of Caro, age 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 25, 2014, follow-ing a lengthy illness.  Elmer was born May 25, 1925 in Pigeon, the son of the      late Albert and Suvilla (McAlpine) Faust, and moved to Caro with his parents in 1932 at age seven.  Elmer married the love of his life, Dorothy Demo, on February 3, 1951. She survives him. Elmer was a builder/land developer and owner/operator of E. Faust Builders. He created and built Northwood Height Subdivision off Cleaver Road, which now has over one hundred homes.  He also built Oak Ridge Apartments and Oak Ridge Condominiums off M-81.  He was instrumental in developing land along Cleaver Road and East M-81 which added approximately twenty new businesses to Caro.  He had a vision and could see potential development possibilities on the bare land.  Elmer was passionate about his work.  He made his mark on Caro and left it a better place to live.  He was a member of the Caro Planning Commission and American Legion Post #7.  He loved to spend time with his family, travel, and carve wood boots which he enjoyed giving to all he met.  He briefly served in the U.S. Army in 1950.  Elmer is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Dorothy Faust; one son, five daughters and their spouses, Ed Faust of Caro, Pamela and Johnathan Miller of Frankenmuth, Patti Gabler of Caro and her friend, David Dietlein, Mary and Steve Lloyd of Bay City, Jane and Mike Butcher of Perry, and Sue and Kurt Abbe of Grayling; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Miller, Kaitlyn and Caleb Boese, Stephanie and Michael Losee, Paige Lloyd, Jacob and Kelsey Butcher, Kurt Jr., Ethan, and Harrison Abbe; one great-grandson, Colton Losee; sisters, Idena and William Rodd, Onna Lee Miklovic, and Norma and Roy Wightman, all of Caro; one aunt, Cecile Hartman Howk of Clio; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley Fitzmaurice, William and Lois Demo, and Jean Maksimowicz, all of Saginaw, and Joan Smith of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Berniece Faust.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will follow at Almer Township Cemetery in Caro. The family received friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Heartland Hospice, or the Harrison Abbe Family Discretionary Fund, (fourteen year old grandson recently diagnosed with cancer) c/o Sue Abbe, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, Michigan 48723.
