Beryl A. (Murphy) Welch of the Syracuse, New York area, age 66, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York, following a brief illness. She was born on March 3, 1948 in Gladstone, Michigan, the daughter of the late Larry and Ruth (Butterfield) Murphy, and graduated from Akron-Fairgrove High School with the class of 1966. Beryl grew up in the Fairgrove area, but was a longtime resident of Memphis, New York. Fondly known as “Beryl the Cake Lady”, she was currently employed as a cashier at Wegman’s in Fairmount, New York where she had worked for the past eleven years and was a member of Holy Family Church. She enjoyed photography, baking, cake decorating and gardening. Beryl had a sense of humor, a compassionate heart and a wonderful smile. Beryl is survived by her children, Anjanette (Todd) Bowen, Jennifer (Nathan) Harrington, Kathleen (Susan) Welch, Kristine (Nicholas) Menkins, Bernard (Sheryl) Welch, Carolyn (David) Dennestedt, Timothy Welch, Amy Manes, Richard (Mary) VanHeesch; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, three sisters and their spouses, Wesley (Dina) Murphy, Margaret (John) Spohn, Kathleen (David) Humpert, Margot Terry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Welch in 1999; and one son, Steven Hintz, in 1986 A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove.
