TUSCOLA COUNTY — There is over $833,000 less in state funds coming into Tuscola County due a drop in student enrollment.
All but three school districts in Tuscola Count had a decrease in student enrollment. The Mayville School District and the Millington School District had the largest loss of student enrollment while the Caro School District, the Kingston School District and the Vassar School District each had enrollment increases.
Although the count is done, the enrollment numbers aren’t considered official at this time.
“The 2013 enrollment figures come from the audited pre-kindergarten through alternative education head count, and the 2014 count is ‘un-audited at this time,” said Tuscola County Intermediate School District Superintendent Gene Pierce. “However, the numbers should be very close after the (state) audit,”
A decrease in student enrollment means less money for a district and an increase in student enrollment means more revenue for the district.
The state per-pupil foundation allowance is $71,126 per student for all Tuscola public schools, said Pierce.
