Dorothy L. Wenzel, age 83, of Sebewaing, joined the Church Triumphant on November 24, 2014 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe, Michigan. She was born April 8, 1931 in Detroit to Robert, Sr. and Martha (Stecker) Hanke. At the age of 13, her family moved to Sebewaing, and Dorothy graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1949. She earned a Bachelors Degree from Central Michigan University, and was a teacher for many years, first in Owendale, and then in Sebewaing and USA Public Schools. On June 21, 1958 Dorothy was united in marriage to Kenneth O. Wenzel. They had been married 55 years when he preceded her in death November 2, 2013. Dorothy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had been involved with the Couples Club and LWML. Over the years she enjoyed sewing, bowling, painting, playing cards, doing puzzles, shopping, and spending time with family. Survivors include daughters Julie (Bryan) Beuschel, Jan Wenzel, and Carol (Jim) Koch; grandchildren, Brad, Beth, Chad, and Chris Koch, and Mark, Grant, and Nathan Beuschel; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Elsie Hanke, Beverly Wirgau, Audrey Lewandowski, and Rodger and Carol Wenzel. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert Hanke, Jr. The Funeral Service is 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sebewaing, with Rev. Michael Boyer, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, November 29 from 2-8 p.m. at Juengel and Mellendorf Funeral Home, Sebewaing, and Sunday, November 30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
