She was born April 2, 1926 in Unionville to the late Alexander and Anna Sophia (Neuwirth) Holzwart. She married Richard Lee Ostrander on July 9, 1945 in Highland Park. Eileen was baptized at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Unionville. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School for eight years. She graduated from Unionville High School in 1944, where she sold War Bonds in the 1940s. Eileen was a patient caregiver for Blue Water Hospice, volunteering for sixteen years. She was deeply committed in her faith life at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Marysville. She is survived by her four daughters, Roxann (Larry) Kittinger of Albion, Diana (Jay) Lindsey of Fort Gratiot, Nadine (Robert) LaGruth of Marysville and Eileen Lucille (Michael) Browning of St. Clair; her grandchildren, Christian (Jo) Reding, Melanie (Christopher) Jage, Michelle (Rick) Carlson, Anthony LaGruth, Steven (Heather) Bark, Richard Bark, Kevin (Mary Ann) Kittinger, Keith (Claudia) Kittinger, Craig (Lori) Kittinger, Samantha and Megan Lindsey, Ken Browning and Eric (Isabela) Browning; her great-grandchildren, Noah and Ella Carlson, Roland LaGruth, Derek, Nathan and Travis Bark and David McCraw, Colette (Joe) Kaiser and Jessica and Anna Taylor, Caroline and Brendan Kittinger and Evan Melcher, Chase, Karinne and Kelsey Kittinger, Brittany and Joshua Kittinger and Tyler Browning; her brothers-in-law and sisters–in-law, John Niebling, Lucille Ostrander, Betty Holzwart, Harvey (Rose) Ostrander and Jesse Ostrander; and many nieces and nephews. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Richard Ostrander, Past President of the Great Lakes Pilot Association; her baby son, two sisters, three brothers and a great granddaughter. Many people will remember our Mom for the love and attention she gave them sending cards and notes for their birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, and health concerns. Her love for her church and her beliefs made her very active at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir for many years and continued to appreciate and love all the music contributions given at Pilgrim. She loved people and gave in ministry to them by making and delivering quilts to care facilities, visiting and delivering flowers to shut-ins, delivering supplies to food pantries, and volunteering at Mid-City Nutrition Center. Pastor Hitzeroth learned to NEVER say the word “lucky” – it was “God blessed”. She loved playing cards and bowling and made lifelong friendships through the fun shared in competition. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church with visiting from 1:00 pm. Reverend John W. Hitzeroth will officiate. Memorials may be given in Eileen’s name to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or Blue Water Hospice. Arrangements by Marysville Funeral Home. To send condolences, please visit www.marysville funeralhome.com
