Gary Lee Hofmeister, 72, of North Branch, died Sunday, December 7, 2014. Gary was born February 11, 1942 in Bay City to parents Herbert and Alvina (Holzwart) Hofmeister. He graduated from Sebewaing High School, class of 1960. Gary went on to serve his country proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Gary married Carol Zindler on December 15, 1967 in Detroit. He worked for Bristol Steel Company for over 20 years, retiring in 2004. Gary was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lapeer where he taught confirmation classes for many years, was an elder as well as volunteering in many other capacities. Gary was a member of the Deerfield Township Fire Department and an active North Branch Lions Club member. Gary is survived by his daughter, Dana (Ron) Stuart of North Branch; son, James (Jennifer) Hofmeister of Macomb; grandchildren: Andrew (Cassandra), Matthew, Katherine, Sydney, Paige and Caleb; brother, Ronald (Kathleen) Hofmeister of Traverse City, and his sister, Karen (Larry) Prime of Unionville. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Hofmeister in May 2008 and his parents. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, December 13, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer, Pastor John Kaiser officiating. Gary’s family will receive friends from 10-11AM at church the day of the service. Military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard will immediately follow the memorial. Per Gary’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
