MILFORD — Former Caro city manager Brent Morgan resigned abruptly from his new position earlier this month after just nine months on the job.
Morgan left Caro for the village of Milford in November 2012 where he became village manager. Milford’s village council accepted his resignation at a special meeting Thursday, August 8.
For the second time in two years, village clerk Debbie Frazer has accepted the additional responsibilities of also serving as Milford’s interim city manager. Frazer held the role for several months in 2012 after longtime manager Arthur Shufflebarger died unexpectedly after 22 years as village manager. Morgan was hired to fill the vacancy created by Shufflebarger’s death.
Frazer said that Morgan’s resignation was communicated through the village’s attorney.
“I do not have any reason to know (why he resigned),” Frazer said, “His reason was not given to me.”
“All I can tell you is he tendered his resignation, and council has accepted it,” Milford village council president Terri Rusas-George told The Oakland Press.
The Oakland Press reported that Morgan earned an annual salary of $80,000 and an annual vehicle allowance of $3,000. He was required to pay 20 percent of his health care premiums.
Morgan was sworn in as Caro’s city manager on May 4, 2010, replacing former city manager Don Beavers. The Advertiser reported at the time that before coming to Caro, Morgan served as the Director of Economic Development and assistant to the city manager in Owosso. He previously worked as a legislative aide after graduating from Central Michigan University in 1998. Morgan went on to work in municipal government in Farmington, Davison and Fenton.
Frazer said Milford’s village council Monday night to review the city manager’s job description and discuss how to fill the vacancy.
Morgan could not be reached for comment.
