ALBERT JAMES SLINGLEND, SR. Fairgrove

Albert James Slinglend, Sr., age 57, of Fairgrove, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his home. He was born March 14, 1957 in Lapeer, the son of the late William and Rosalin (Cowell) Slinglend, and was a 1975 graduate of Caro High School. Albert served in the U.S. Marines Corps from 1975 to 1976, when he was honorably discharged. He then served with the Marine Reserves until 1981. Albert was currently employed at Wal-Mart as a cart associate for the past three years. He previously worked at the Circle Drive AFC Home in Fairgrove for five years, and at Johnson’s Potato Farm in Essexville as a farmhand. His life revolved around his family, and he enjoyed watching sports and recording baseball stats. Albert is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael (Katrina) Burnham of Imlay City, Albert Slinglend, Jr. of Ubly, and Randy Slinglend of Ubly; his first granddaughter from Michael and Katrina whom Albert was very excited to greet in June; the mother of his children, Dorothy Brown; five sisters, Pamela Hill of Port Huron, Wihelmina Shaw of Lapeer, Rhonda Dombrowski of Attica, Mary (James) Burnham of Akron, Rose (Daniel) Burnham of Mayville; one brother, Rick Slinglend of Flint. Albert also leaves many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Gladys Burnham; brother, Billy Slinglend; three brothers-in-law, Jerry Burnham, Gerald Shaw and Frank Dombrowski; one niece, Judy Slinglend; and a great-nephew, Bill. Albert will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, brother, terrific uncle and friend. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Troy Parrish officiating. Military honors will be afforded by the Caro American Legion Post #7 and the U.S. Marines Corps. In keeping with Albert’s wishes, cremation will follow the service. The family were present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro American Legion Post #7.
