Debby Turner, 62, of Vassar, died peacefully at home on September 13, 2013 surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her father, Robert “Sandy” Mitchell and her sister, Robin Thompson. Survivors include her husband, George Turner; daughter, Brandy (James) Shipley; son, Tommy (Sara) Meyer; mother, Marion Mitchell; sister, Kim Meinke; brother, Bobby Mitchell; step-son, Luke (Brooke) Turner; step-daughter, Elyse Turner; beloved pugs, Norma Jean and Willie; nieces and nephews, (Heather Thompson, Wayne and Wendi West, Jared Mitchell, Shannon Scruggs-Allen, Lisa, Paula, and Sam Meyer, Kate Neese, and Michael Meyer); eight great-nieces and nephews, and grandsons, Landon and Holden Turner. After Debby graduated from Lapeer High School in 1969, she worked for the State of Michigan from 1969 to 2002 and retired after 33 years. However, Debby’s passion in life was her artistic gifts and sharing those talents with others. She loved quilting, watercolor painting, cooking, gardening, teaching sewing classes and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with her husband George and mother Marion. Like her father, she was an avid Tigers fan and watched each and every game of the season. Debby rarely put herself first and was always reaching out and doing things for other people, never expecting anything in return. Her kind and gentle nature, wisdom, and generosity will forever be missed by those that loved her. A memorial service will be held at Living Waters Chapel, 650 S. Hooper St., Caro, at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20. Donations in Debby’s honor can be made to http://www.ovarian.org/donate.php.
