The Frankenmuth Police, Fire Department and Mobile Medical Response were dispatched to a aircraft crash on Wednesday (09.18.2013) at approximately 7:46pm. The reported crash site was at Curtis Road and Conway Street located in Frankenmuth Township. Upon arrival public safety personnel located four people of unreported ages who where aboard the aircraft.
First responders are reporting all occupants of the aircraft have walked away from the crash and are uninjured.
Investigators spoke with the pilot and initial reports are the aircraft left the Tiny Zehnder Airport located in Frankenmuth Township a short time before the crash. Approximately fifteen minutes after take off the pilot reported the aircraft’s engine began to malfunction. The pilot attempted to get the aircraft back to the airfield but could not.
The aircraft crashed in the area of Curtis Road and Conway Street which is in the southeast corner of Frankenmuth Township just outside the Frankenmuth City limits.
There is no fuel reported spilled and no homes have been evacuated at this time and all roadways are open to motorists. The cause of the crash has been initially ruled as being mechanical by the first responders but the FAA has been contacted (as required) and will be responding to the crash site to conduct a complete investigation. Frankenmuth Police will be at the crash site until the investigation is complete.
