Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Meme to all) sister and friend, passed away at her home on Monday, July 15, 2013. She was 91. Marie was born June 19, 1922 in Linwood, daughter of the late Henry and Amanda (Trombley) Socia. She married Herbert Schian on August 8, 1942 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bay City. They were married 61 years. Besides raising her family, she worked several years at Zehnder’s Restaurant in Frankenmuth. She is survived by her children, Carol Miller, Sally (James) O’Connor and Larry Schian all of Reese, Janice Burrell of Midland, Ann (Duane) Hogan of Cornell, Joe (Cindy) Schian of Davison, Nancy Richards (fiancée Terry Aymer) of Fairgrove, Scott (Rochelle) Schian of Caro and daughter-in-law Jeanne of Saginaw; 20 grandchildren and 30 great- grandchildren whom she enjoyed visiting and playing games with. She is also survived by a sister, Norma Bublitz of Bay City and a brother, James Socia of Essexville. In addition to her husband Herb and parents, two sons, Eugene and James Schian and a son-in-law Frank Miller all preceded her in death. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, from St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Father Bill Gruden will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. Marie’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the liturgy. A Vigil for the deceased will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Heartland Hospice or St. Elizabeth School.
