Raymond E. Martin of Caro, age 78, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at his home. He was born September 4, 1935 in Caro, the son of the late Delbert and Nellie (Clark) Martin. Ray was united in marriage with the former Carol LaPeer in June of 1977 in Cass City. She preceded him in death on December 20, 1991. He was later married to the former Sally Palmer in February of 1994 in Cass City, and the couple has cherished nearly twenty years together. Ray was employed as a semi-truck driver for UPS for thirty-one years, retiring in 1994, and was honored for over thirty years of safe driving. While with UPS, he traveled the route between Cass City and Mt. Pleasant for twenty years, and spent his last eleven years driving from Cass City to Grand Rapids. Ray was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro and loved motorcycles, animals of all kinds, especially horses and dogs. Ray is survived by his wife, Sally Martin of Caro; his children and their spouses, Debbie & Bud Tait of Georgia, Dawn & Rick Foutch of Harrison, Randy & Marie Martin of Holly, Shelly & Steve McNally of Harrison, LeAnn & Jeff Hicks of Lansing, Brenda & Tim Cronin of Missouri, Jim LaPeer of Hawaii, Wayne & Marie Corlis of Midland, Colleen & Mike Watson of Indiana; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Carrie Withun; three brothers, Leo, Clark and Lawrence; three sisters, Ilabelle, Laura and Evelyn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial at a later date at Novesta Township Cemetery in Cass City. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation.
