Lois Fay Sutton of Caro, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 while wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona, following a lengthy illness. Lois was born April 29, 1938 in Lapeer, the daughter of the late Earl & Alice (Johnson) Hunt. She was united in marriage to Richard G. Sutton on December 15, 1969 in Mt. Pleasant, and the couple has cherished more than forty-four years together. Lois worked as a meat packer for Kroger for over fourteen years before opening and running “Grandma’s Ceramic’s” in Caro for the next seven years. In 1986, she began working as the Executive Director of the Caro Chamber of Commerce, a position she held until her retirement in 1999. Lois was a constant advocate for the Caro community, and was active with local activities such as the Pumpkin Festival, Cars & Crafts, Pancake Supper and Citizen of the Year Dinner. She was a member and past president of the Caro Rotary Club and the chairwoman of the Caro Transit Authority for twenty-three years. She loved her family, especially the grandchildren, and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. She also enjoyed ceramics, reading, country music and traveling, especially to casinos where she could play video poker. Her winters were spent in Arizona, and Lois enjoyed socializing with her many neighborhood friends there. Lois is survived by her loving husband, Richard G. Sutton of Caro; three children and their spouses, David Scott, US Navy, Retired & Brenda Isham of Caro, Christine & Patrick Trisch of Caro, Stephanie & Col. Michael Holway, US Air Force, Retired of Trinity, Alabama; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Sean & Erica Trisch of Texas, Stephanie & SPEC Michael Melton, US Army, Active Duty of North Carolina, Cpl. Sara & Sgt. Aaron Gibson, US Marines, Active Duty of California, Natalie Isham of Saginaw, Marianna Isham of Saginaw, Ariel & Joshua Jones of Alabama, Amanda & Joshua Argo of Alabama; four great-grandchildren, Emily and Abigail Melton, Natalie Kay Isham and Sasha Gibson; siblings, Sally Jobson of North Carolina, Robert Hunt of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by five siblings, Shirley Best, Ruth Shunk, William Hunt, and infants, Earl Hunt, Jr. and Alice Hunt. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. James Solomon officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro Rotary Club or the Caro American Legion Post #7.
